Abstract
Dental implants had 3 basic design types such as screw, blade and cylinders. Among these implant types, blade type implant did not have popularity due to low survival rate. However other researchers reported blade type implant also showed natural reaction including (1) primary stability (2) prevention of infection and epithelium down growth. The aim of this case report was to evaluate blade type implant, which has been loaded on left lower second molar more than for 25 years. Chief complaint of 64 year-old female patient was oral malodor at the first visit. A blade type implant was placed on the #37 site, and the implant was connected with natural teeth (#34, 35) by fixed restoration. Four years later, she visited dental clinic appealing pain on the same side. Probing depth was over 6mm on the #37i. There was no severe marginal bone loss around the implant. The mobility of the restoration was observed. After treatment of plaque control, medication, and flap surgery for peri-implantitis, pain and mobility of the implant were decreased, and she didn¡¯t want to remove her implant. According to this case, blade implant has been functioned well for a long-term period.
